My glimpse of the Freedom Tower in Soho ššŗšø#neverforget #nyc #freedomtower #USA #merica!
I just love traveling! There is nothing more exhilarating than being somewhere new and breaking out of your routine and comfort zone.
The one exception would be flying. I really donāt care much for it. I have a problem with the whole gravity thing!
ā¦to plan a EuroTrip with Chuck for 2014! I have been talking for ages about doing this, but of course, things happen and itās hard to commit for all kinds of reasons. But itās true what they say – thereās never a āgoodā time to drop that much money on something, so eventually you just have to go for it. It only gets harder to find the time to have an adventure, and weāve been working really hard on saving money this year (weddings aside). Of course, ideally Iāll be gainfully employed in a real city in 2014 too! That would give me some confidence to move forward with it.
Anyway, my original thought was to go in the Fall. Iāve heard the Fall is best for travel, from cost to weather patterns – plus thatās our wedding anniversary! But Chuck graduates from his school billet in March, so I feel like that may be a good time to go instead. If we wait till October, we will both (hopefully) have started new jobs somewhere, and may not have the flexibility to take time off, and Lord knows what his schedule will be like to begin with.
Now I just need to decide where to go!! Iāve been to the UK twice, but I feel like itās a must for someone whoās never been to Europe before (like Chuck, who requested we go wherever the castle is where Harry Potter went to school.) Plus I have long-lost friends there, so it would be fun to reunite with them. Then I was thinking of hitting the basics – France and Italy – but I get so distracted by the other countries too! Greece, Germany, Switzerland, Spainā¦and donāt get me started on other continents š
Letās hope we get more than one opportunity to go on a fun trip like that. I was hoping the military would take us there, but itās not looking like that will happen. Itās always been one of the big things I want to do with my life – travel and see the world. Itās just so gosh darn expensive these days!
But like I always used to tell my dad when heād give me money talks – Iāve never regretted a penny spent on a trip, foreign or domestic š
Anyway – advice on how to go about planning a EuroTrip (flights, places to stay, and other essentials) would be great!
“Be careful of theĀ yeah-but. TheĀ yeah-but will kill your dreams.ā
“When you get older, life seems to just sort of happenĀ to you. Your youth is a time of total empowerment. You get to do what you want.ā
“Do not squander this time. You will never have it again.”
Love this article (link in title)! I definitely feel like Iāve wasted so much time in this regard, and I am acutely aware of how fleeting my youth is. I can only hope that by spring 2014, life will have settled down enough where I can actually make plans without them getting ruined.
Of course, this time last year, I thought 2013 would be our year⦠lol so much for that. š

Just booked my trip to Playa del Carmen to serve as a bridesmaid in my friend Amandaās wedding in September! I was realizing earlier this week how much I miss being in a big city, where travel plans are so much easier to deal with (tiny airports are such a pain in the tushy!) but I figured it out and now I feel so much relief to have it pretty much squared away and official.
Iāve only been to Playa once, on a cruise-stop, so 3 days will be so much better. Iām sad Chuck canāt come, but two of my close girl friends will be there, plus the bride of course – so Iām looking forward to a fun Labor Day getaway š

Chuck and I celebrated our first/second anniversary in Savannah, Georgia this past weekend. I think it exceeded both of our expectations! Iām not exactly sure what I did expect – but it was better š

Top 10 Highlights were:
1) The beautiful Olde Savannah Inn in which we stayed. We had an eccentric Boston inn keeper who made the experience particularly interesting. I think she really liked us in the end⦠āOh my goodness, you went from Seventeen Magazine to Lauren Bacall overnight!ā Why thank you!!

2) The Crystal Beer Parlorās grilled ham nā cheddar sandwich (the bison burger was good too!) We were a tad overdressed (Savannah is a very casual/hipster town), but it was funny being dolled up next to a guy wearing ankle socks with his sandals.
3) The fact that you can walk everywhere and there are about 39384783 darling little parks where you can take a break and learn some history. Downtown is remarkably well-preserved! Beautiful, mostly original homes dating back to the 18th and 19th centuries.

4) The fact that Chuck and I were so sad we didnāt encounter ANYONE with Southern accents, we started speaking in them ourselves all Saturday evening and assumed alternate identities (we may have been a bit tipsy⦠my name was Tabitha⦠I was very convincing.)
5) The open container law⦠speaking of tipsy š It was pretty cool to take my cup of cider out on the street while we walked along the river.
6) The trendy Bohemian Hotel Rooftop Bar – awesome city views!
7) Decadent organic breakfasts at the Inn

8) City Market⦠so much art and local culture! River Street shops were pretty cute too. We visited a Honey Bee shop and did some honey-tasting⦠who knew there was such variety in honey!

9) Moonlight Carriage Ride through the Historic District and Victorian District. Very romantic (complete with a glass of wine to take with us) and an awesome tour guide who gave us all the historic/cultural trivia you could ask for (Iām a total sucker for history and trivia!) And⦠I must watch āMidnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.ā

10) Finally (and probably most importantly), our dinner at Elizabethās on 37th, a gorgeous old Southern mansion. OMG. Words cannot describe how amazing this experience was. Chuck and I both agreed it is the best restaurant weāve ever been to. We were served by the owner himself, who told us that the owner of Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs had dined there the night before. Seriously, I canāt even bring myself to post the pictures I took, because they donāt do it nearly enough justice. We had scallops in truffle oil, fresh biscuits, filet, flounder, organic fresh salad, chocolate pecan pieā¦ahhh Iām drooling just thinking about it! To quote Chuck: āThere is a line where great food actually becomes art. I think this is it!ā
Anyways. The only ānegativeā was the Ghosts and Graveyards Trolley Tour. Iām a little spoiled by Colonial Williamsburg tours, but this was pretty bad. Overly dramatic, without even a hint of authenticity. Maybe it was the fact that it was on a trolley, with a clearly unemployed actor doing the honors with over-the-top flair. But, it was free (part of our package)⦠so who cares š I am sad I didnāt come away with one decent Savannah ghost story to share though!
Overall, it was a simply lovely weekend š

Today I filled a life long dream of holding a baby tiger, and I did it without having to travel to some far, exotic land. Months and months ago, I pinned a photo of baby tigers to my Bucket List board on Pinterest, including a caption that explained how someday I needed to hold one. A random stranger commented and told me there was in fact a place that I could do it right here in Coastal Carolina.
Myrtle Beach Safari is pretty much the coolest thing ever.  They have a 50-acre plot of land where you can personally interact with tigers, wolves, falcons, a variety of monkeys, an elephant, and even a liger! At $240 per ticket, we decided to wait on that, but the photo session with the cubs was more reasonable, if not cheap⦠and totally worth the few moments we got to play with the little tykes!
All the proceeds go to sustaining the wildlife and funding efforts to conserve and protect endangered species, so I feel like every penny was well spent. I DO plan to go on a full safari tour next season, once I can (hopefully) relax our new budget. But seriously – I was just so excited!! You can totally tell what a crazy person I am in the photo – not that most flattering shot, with my crazy eyes and tensed-excited body langauge and bulging forehead vein!! Chuck, on the other hand, looks suave and chill as a cucumber⦠and the tiger cubs⦠well⦠they truly just steal the show š
Of course, I couldnāt wait to get back to my very own little cublet back at home. I may be crazy for wildcats, but Miss Bean will always be my one and only ā¤

This past weekend was my long anticipated girlsā trip to Miami. I was looking forward to reverting to my Bad Kitty days a little – aka, dressing up like (attractive and very expensive) hookers, dancing on table tops, and sipping complimentary champagne, while snubbing any sketchball who dared come too close. But alas, I think it just wasnāt meant to be.
Due to a number of airline mishaps, I didnāt even get to Miami until later Friday night, and then I caught a bad cold after traveling for 16 hours. Saturday night, I went to bed after a delicious dinner that I didnāt even have the appetite to finish, before heading to the airport at 4:30 AM to catch my flight homeā¦only to have the airline lose my luggage before I drove another 2.5 hours home from the airport.
In spite of it all, I still pulled myself together enough to go out Friday night, and enjoy the VIP treatment at LIV and watch LMFAO perform. I even got a couple hours at the beach! Of course, I got to see some of my girl friends š I missed out on another fun night out, but I guess that means I will just have to go again sometimeā¦
⦠Or, maybe my issues were just a sign Iāve truly outgrown these kinds of shin digsā¦Sigh!

This October will be Chuckās and my first wedding anniversary (two-year marriage anniversary, if you want to get technical!) I know October is a wayās off, but with Chuckās ever-changing deployment schedule, itās never too soon to start thinking about these things. š
A France/Italy trip has always been my ultimate anniversary trip, but that isnāt in the financial cards quite yet. However, a vacay in wine country is a very close second! Napa would be absolutely gorgeous in Octoberā¦
So, even though I have no idea if Chuck will even be in the country or not, Iām going to have fun planning our imaginary anniversary-cation, even if we have to take it another year. I even picked the place we will stay, Maison Fleurie (itās like weāll be in France anyway!!)
