Starfish Wishes & Mermaid Kisses

It’s cliché but true – the ocean does wonders for both the body and soul.

When I lived in California, Okinawa, and North Carolina, I knew I took it for granted that I lived by the sea. I knew I would miss it when it was gone. I always appreciated it, and realized how special it was, but by the time I hit the one-year mark of living in DC, I was craving salty air and sandy toes something fierce.

Of course, the global pandemic has made every potential getaway more complicated and guilt-ridden than before. But when Chuck’s parents said they wanted us to join them for a few days in Kill Devil Hills, NC – and promised they felt comfortable exposing themselves to our cooties to such a degree – of course I jumped at the chance to escape.

Just booked my trip to Playa del Carmen to serve as a bridesmaid in my friend Amanda’s wedding in September! I was realizing earlier this week how much I miss being in a big city, where travel plans are so much easier to deal with (tiny airports are such a pain in the tushy!) but I figured it out and now I feel so much relief to have it pretty much squared away and official.

I’ve only been to Playa once, on a cruise-stop, so 3 days will be so much better. I’m sad Chuck can’t come, but two of my close girl friends will be there, plus the bride of course – so I’m looking forward to a fun Labor Day getaway 🙂

Bienvenido a Miami… Kinda!

This past weekend was my long anticipated girls’ trip to Miami. I was looking forward to reverting to my Bad Kitty days a little – aka, dressing up like (attractive and very expensive) hookers, dancing on table tops, and sipping complimentary champagne, while snubbing any sketchball who dared come too close. But alas, I think it just wasn’t meant to be.

Due to a number of airline mishaps, I didn’t even get to Miami until later Friday night, and then I caught a bad cold after traveling for 16 hours. Saturday night, I went to bed after a delicious dinner that I didn’t even have the appetite to finish, before heading to the airport at 4:30 AM to catch my flight home…only to have the airline lose my luggage before I drove another 2.5 hours home from the airport.

In spite of it all, I still pulled myself together enough to go out Friday night, and enjoy the VIP treatment at LIV and watch LMFAO perform. I even got a couple hours at the beach! Of course, I got to see some of my girl friends 🙂 I missed out on another fun night out, but I guess that means I will just have to go again sometime…

… Or, maybe my issues were just a sign I’ve truly outgrown these kinds of shin digs…Sigh!
