First Day!

Today is my first at the new Chamber job, since yesterday I had to drive 2.5 hours northeast to attend my mandatory court hearing for that speeding ticket I got Labor Day weekend (DA reduced it for me with no points and no classes! Still had to pay out the wazoo though, 95% of which was in court fees – stupid government bureaucracy…!)

Anyway… the girl I’m replacing is still here technically, so there isn’t a ton for me to do yet. I did get to go to a ribbon cutting ceremony though. And attend meetings! More importantly, I’m filling out my tax and direct deposit forms so that I can actually make some money too 😉

I’m starting to feel like a real professional again!

I wonder how the poor Bean is doing at home though… all alone, all day long? The president here at the Chamber brings her old poodle with her to work every day, so I wonder if I can arrange some sort of similar deal with Annie?! Wouldn’t that be fun!! Miss her 😦

November Strikes

I feel ridiculous complaining about temperatures in the sixties (just bear with me please), but ever since Sandy swept through, I canNOT get warm unless I’m in a steaming hot shower or buried under a heap of blankets!! Lows in the 30s, highs in the low 60s, with no end in sight… I’m all wrapped up in my warmest clothes, ate and drank a hot breakfast, but I’m still all hunched up. Of course, it’s way too early to turn on the heat, so I’m just gonna suck it up as long as I can.

Really though, this is such a stark contrast to last fall/winter here in NC, which was incredibly mild and beautiful. I swear it didn’t get this “chilly” until January. Sigh. I want my moderate beach climate back! I guess we’ll see what happens after this front runs through? I sure hope it’s not here to stay.

In other news, yesterday was my last shift EVER at the pharmacy. I was feeling a little sad at first. After all, they’ve been very flexible with me, and everyone is so nice and overwhelmed… until I got paged while peeing. Seriously, I’m so excited to return to a work environment where I won’t feel guilty for all hell breaking loose because I took a quick bathroom break after several hours of holding it.

Today I go in to the Chamber for some more training. One of their biggest events of the year also happens to be tonight, so I’ll be staying late to participate and observe their Annual Coasta Roasta Oyster Roast! All you can eat shrimp and oysters, open bar, and live music on the river. I have a feeling I’m going to like this job 🙂

New Job & New Recipe…!

… – ish on both accounts. Today I start my new non-profit gig in Wilmington. Unfortunately it’s temp, but depending on how it goes, that “unfortunately” may turn into a “fortunately”… 😉 Really though, I am excited! It’s high-visibility business development for the area (which it desperately needs), and I think I will learn a lot from it – especially since I’m one of only two team members/consultants brought in to help.

Either way – it’s something! I will try to keep the pharmacy job a few shifts per month just in case I don’t find something else when this position wraps up in the fall. Luckily, they are willing to work with me for that.

And as for the “new” recipe… slow cooker lasagna?! WHAT a novelty! Clearly I’ve made lasagna before, but I’ve never heard of the crockpot concept 🙂 Prep n’ go… Come home to delicious smells and a ready dinner! What’s not to love?
